Our client operates Primary Care Medical Centres in the United States of America (USA). They required a custom Electronic Health Record (EHR) system with easy input, intelligent storage and the ability to display patient data in a digital format.

The following technologies and tools were used in the delivery of this project; JavaScript, MySQL, Angular framework, Angular Material UI, Kotlin, PostgreSQL, Redis.
The Challenge
Existing Electronic Health Records (EHRs) were based on a one-size-fits-all approach. These were originally created for generalist clinics and insurance companies, but this failed to consider the unique requirements of different healthcare providers and the clinician’s workflow. Therefore the challenge was to create an EHR solution which optimised the complex workflow and also had built-in telehealth features to enable further growth.
The Solution
The custom cloud solution automates the following business processes: scheduling patient appointments, managing reminders and cancellations, storing medical records/notes, and invoicing, to name a few. The system enables users to store a medical entry in the system for 5 to 28 years, making the volume of processed data reasonably large.
In the effort to minimise readmission rates, remote visits using a patient portal have been introduced. Previously, patients with certain conditions had to be monitored constantly and frequent home visits were conducted. However, now remote consultations are possible via a secure HIPAA-compliant portal, in person consultations are not always required.
The Outcome
As the requirements of the project evolved, so did the scope and timings, so an agile approach was taken. Due to strict functional standards of healthcare applications and compliance with HIPAA, ONC and CEHRT, partial implementation of the solution was not possible. Therefore the Development Version 1 is close to completion and implementation is planned shortly.
The solution is currently used by 700+ healthcare employees from 30+ medical institutions across the USA, with over 1,000 therapy orders created each month. Our team continues to enhance the platform, constantly adding new features and integrations, with input from laboratories and insurance companies, as more clinics adopt the system.
